First off, I was a bit concerned that there might be a silicone smell to the mold that would end up permeating into the ice,…but rest assured, I experienced none of that. The huge advantage here is the silicone’s ability to flex when dispensing the cubes. No worries about cracking the molds here! If you take care to fill these molds up according the instructions, you should end up with some nicely shaped ice spheres. I have used the molds several times and had great success. There is a fill line that is visible inside the mold and it is wise to follow that. You can still top off the molds if you just feel the need to, but as ice expands, you really shouldn’t need to do this. The molds are compact enough so that your risk of spillage should be minimal while walking to the freezer with a newly filled tray. I simply fill mine right in the freezer (I have a bottom load freezer) so the walk and risk of spillage is altogether mitigated.
These are really great molds and I recommend them highly.
